Objective

The Safety Management Information System (SC-SMIS) was developed for Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR) to promote and improve construction safety climates. By surveying construction company employees, the system generates custom reports, ratings and resources to help management set effective safety goals. By transitioning the SC-SMIS into a web-based application, the goal was to increase accessibility and ease of use. It was important for the application to be intuitive for new users and present information effectively on both desktop and mobile devices.

Solution

Celerate designed the SC-SMIS interface to guide users through the survey scheduling, report generation and goal setup processes. Well-defined dashboard action items provide a simple method for managers to navigate the system. The scheduling tool breaks down each step clearly and generates a custom email message that can be sent to employees through their preferred mailing client. Surveys are designed to work well across all devices while also being easy to use. The reporting feature provides options for single reports or multiple survey comparisons while also providing detailed information about each safety indicator. The results and reporting tools also invite managers to view resources and setup custom safety goals based on the data. Overall, the new SC-SMIS application design blends a sharp, modern look with intuitive flow and an organized information architecture.
